distrib-u-tec

distrib-u-tec builds fully integrated ERP and accounting software purpose-built for the food distribution, packing, and processing industry. The system covers sales and order entry, inventory and warehouse management, production, purchasing, and full accounting in a single platform, serving distributors, manufacturers, and processors across North America from its base in Grand Forks, British Columbia.

The software was built with its customers rather than for them. Incorporated in 1996 by Dietz and June Nicolay, InterSect Business Systems developed distrib-u-tec in partnership with six food distributors and packers between 1996 and 1999. Most of those original partners remain customers today. Three decades of that working relationship is visible in how the product handles the operational realities of food distribution, including lot tracking, catch weight, perishable inventory, and the accounting complexity that follows from all of it.

Food distributors run on thin margins and tight timelines. The system that manages their orders, inventory, and books is not a back-office convenience. It is the operating spine of the business. distrib-u-tec has earned its position in those operations by staying close to how the work is actually done.

The business joined Solen in June 2026 and operates as part of the smrtr platform, extending smrtr's manufacturing, distribution, and food and beverage capabilities deeper into food distribution ERP. Customers keep the same team and the same support, now with the resources and long-term investment model behind them to keep building the product.

distrib-u-tec was built hand in hand with our customers, and that partnership has always been what matters most. In smrtr and Solen we found a partner that shares that philosophy, one committed to supporting our customers and our team for the long term. I am confident the business is in the right hands for its next chapter.
